Lydia Hamilton

Competent guidance, a conversational pace, and room to rediscover hope.

About Me

When clients find Lydia Hamilton, they are usually carrying something that has quietly been running their lives — an anxiety that won’t settle, a family dynamic that keeps breaking down, or a habit they can’t outpace no matter how hard they try. Working from her office in downtown Duncan, BC, Lydia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who has spent decades learning what actually moves people forward. She works with teens and adults through depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, personality disorders, grief, and the grinding stress of caring for someone else — online sessions available across British Columbia.

Her background spans doctoral-level research into depression, years inside health authority systems as both clinician and leader, and a private practice she launched in 2022. She draws on CBT, DBT, and ACT — not as a rigid script, but as a toolkit she shapes around each person. She is direct enough to offer guidance when it is needed, and relaxed enough that sessions rarely feel as heavy as the subject matter. For clients who find it nearly impossible to mentally clock out — the ones whose work pings them at 10 pm and whose mind races long after the phone goes dark — that conversational ease turns out to matter more than they expected.

Lydia is also an avid gardener, an enthusiastic amateur home renovator, and a devoted dog walker in the Cowichan Valley. She finds that a little well-timed humour has a way of making the hard work feel doable.
