Beginning therapy can feel daunting, and I work to ease that transition for anyone anxious about it or unsure how to start. I am Brittany James-Vilavanh, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in La Jolla, California.
I help individuals and couples work through past wounds, and I have experience with people from varied backgrounds and income levels. Areas I work in include anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, addiction, relationship distress, infidelity, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), LGBTQIA+ concerns and self-esteem issues.
I aim to help clients develop curiosity, acceptance and self-compassion, and to identify ways of reaching their future goals. Care is personalized in a secure, accepting and nonjudgmental setting. Warmth, humor and compassion mark my approach, which pairs holistic psychology with evidence-based practice. My modalities are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), and humanistic, existential and experiential therapy. I am also trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).
