Janet McDonald’s practice is built around the idea that understanding yourself more deeply is what makes lasting change possible. Working one-on-one with adults, Janet helps people who are navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, depressed mood, stress, relationship difficulties, and a shaky sense of self-worth — sitting with them as they work toward clearer thinking, stronger boundaries, and a gentler relationship with themselves.
She draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Positive Psychology, Person-Centred Therapy, and Self-Compassion practices — approaches that, taken together, treat the whole person rather than just the presenting problem. For many of the adults Janet sees, the stress doesn’t clock out when the workday ends; it arrives with them at the dinner table, lit up on the phone in their pocket. Her work creates space to examine those patterns honestly and build the self-regulation skills to shift them.
A Canadian Certified Counsellor based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Janet holds an MEd in Counselling Psychology and a BA Honours in Psychology, both from Memorial University. She offers sessions online as well as in person at The Wellness Centre on Bonaventure Avenue.
