Working to Counter Psychological Manipulation and Coercive Control

About Me

Star Spider is a peer counsellor, writer, and guide who supports people navigating difficult and high-stress situations, especially those involving psychological manipulation and coercive control (PM & CC). This includes experiences in high-control groups (or cults), unhealthy relationships, online spaces, and other environments where pressure is placed on a person’s beliefs, identity, or sense of agency.

Her work is shaped by lived experience, years of study, and ongoing support of individuals and families affected by manipulation and control. She helps people make sense of confusing or overwhelming experiences, rebuild trust in themselves, and move toward steadier ground after rupture or disorientation.

A central focus of Star’s work is how modern technology shapes influence and dependency. With strong knowledge of digital systems and artificial intelligence, she helps people understand how attention and persuasion operate online, and how these dynamics can reinforce patterns of over-reliance or loss of control.

Star particularly enjoys working with families, where miscommunication, fear, and urgency can make conversations feel impossible. She helps family members slow down, listen differently, and communicate more clearly in situations involving manipulation, control, or deep disagreement, without escalating conflict or shutting down connection.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Psychology and is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Theological Studies at the University of Toronto. She is also the founder of Counter, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to education, prevention, and recovery around psychological manipulation and coercive control.

At Offline.now, Star brings a calm, steady presence to conversations about technology and human connection, supporting people as they step back from devices and toward more intentional ways of relating to themselves and others.
