Sam Dubetz

Finding the root of the pattern changes the pattern itself.

About Me

Sam Dubetz holds that people don’t struggle because they’re broken — they struggle because the roots of their patterns often stay invisible, and naming those roots is where genuine change begins. Working from an anti-oppressive, social-justice framework, Sam draws on Narrative Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy to help people reauthor stories that have kept them stuck, whether those stories were written by trauma, addiction, chronic illness, or systems that labeled them difficult or treatment-resistant.

Sam works with individuals across a wide range of experiences: men navigating anger or isolation, seniors, people living with psychosis or schizophrenia, those in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, substance users, and anyone carrying the weight of grief, discrimination, or suicidal thoughts. Emotion-Focused Therapy, which builds awareness of the body’s signals rather than overriding them, can be particularly grounding for people whose nervous systems have been trained by relentless notification cycles to treat stillness as threat.

Sam is a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of British Columbia, practicing in Surrey, BC, with online sessions available. Direct billing is offered to many extended health and third-party insurance providers, including Métis Nation BC, WorkSafeBC, WorkBC, MCFD Autism Funding Unit, and Variety of Hearts Foundation.
