Brenda M. Smith

Building confidence and capacity from where you actually are

About Me

Adult mental health and concurrent disorders sit at the centre of Brenda M. Smith’s practice — the place where complex needs, real-world pressures, and a person’s own resilience meet. A Registered Social Worker based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Brenda brings a client-centred, strengths-based orientation to her work, guiding individuals toward greater coping capacity and lasting resolution rather than surface-level relief.

She works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, mood and personality disorders, addiction, and abuse recovery. Her clinical toolkit includes EMDR, CBT, DBT, EFT, and Brief Solution-Focused therapy — all evidence-informed approaches she applies with the kind of warmth that clients routinely describe as genuine and approachable. For many people she sees, the strain doesn’t clock out at five: a phone that never goes quiet and a job that travels home in their pocket can quietly erode the boundary between work and rest, and that erosion often shows up in the room.

Beyond direct counselling, Brenda provides consultation to social service agencies, conducts Capacity Assessments for the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee in Alberta, serves as a Federal Provider for Veterans Affairs, National Defence, and the RCMP, and offers clinical supervision to provisional social workers and social work students. Online sessions are available.
