A background in visual art and years of sustained meditation practice brought Charis Khoury to psychotherapy with a conviction that healing rarely happens in isolation. Trained at the California Institute of Integral Studies, she works from Gestalt, humanistic, and psychodynamic foundations, drawing on Hakomi and AEDP to create a therapeutic relationship built on safety, emotional presence, and the kind of attunement that many clients have rarely experienced before.
Charis works with adults, teens, and families navigating anxiety, depression, grief, shame, identity, body image, relationship struggles, and major life transitions — including teenagers whose sense of self is being quietly shaped by the pressure to perform across every platform and feed they inhabit. She holds space for the full range of what brings people to therapy, from deep relational wounds to creative blocks to the slower work of personal growth.
Her approach balances honest engagement with what is painful and genuine attention to a client’s existing strengths. The process she describes is rigorous but not grim — at times playful, energizing, and grounded in the body. Charis sees clients in Oakland and offers video therapy to residents throughout California.
