When people finally decide to reach out, Erin Makowsky has learned, they have usually been carrying something heavy for a long time โ anxiety that spikes after midnight scrolling, a grief they couldn’t name, a job that has quietly hollowed them out. A Registered Psychologist based in Stony Plain, Alberta, Erin brings fourteen years of experience to those moments, working with adults navigating depression, trauma, addiction, burnout, and the particular weight of a serious health diagnosis in themselves or someone they love.
Her approach draws on person-centred, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioural therapy, combined into a plan built around each person rather than around a method. The aim is collaborative: identifying what is already working, shifting thought patterns that keep someone stuck, and, when it fits, extending the work between sessions with practical tasks. Erin is direct about the fact that she turned to therapy herself during a family member’s cancer diagnosis โ and that experience shapes how she shows up for clients facing their own hard seasons.
Appointments are available Sundays in person at her Stony Plain office, with video and telephone sessions offered on Mondays and Tuesdays. Direct billing is available to several major insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross and Manulife.
