Alan Willard

Whole-person care, grounded in relationship and the examined life.

About Me

Alan Willard brings to his work a conviction that healing rarely happens in isolation from the relationships that shape us. Drawing on decades of formation across pastoral ministry and clinical practice, he holds that the spiritual and psychological dimensions of a person’s life are not separate territories — and that lasting change tends to involve both. That integrated perspective shapes how he listens, how he asks questions, and how he makes sense of what people bring him.

He works with individuals, couples, families, and groups across a wide range of concerns: anxiety and depression, addiction, recovery from abuse, relationship conflict, career transitions, and the particular pressures that accumulate in a working life. When a couple argues less about each other than about who is actually present — whether a phone stays on the table, whether a conversation keeps getting interrupted — Alan recognizes that as real relational territory, not a distraction from the deeper work.

Alan holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech, a D.Min. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and an M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor, and accepts most insurance plans. Sessions are available in person and online.
