Ferne Strain

People grow when their stories are finally heard without judgment.

About Me

Adults carrying too much, couples stuck in the same arguments, children who have gone quiet, veterans trying to find footing after service — these are the people Ferne Strain has spent her career sitting with. A Registered Social Worker based in Kamloops, BC, Ferne brings 18 years of mental health experience and a Master of Social Work from the University of British Columbia to a practice that spans individual counselling, marriage and family work, group settings, and coaching across a wide range of ages and life circumstances.

She works with people navigating depression, anxiety, grief, attachment difficulties, addiction, and the particular pressures of major life transitions. Her clinical background includes play therapy with children, support for foster and adoptive families, and counselling for First Nations, Métis, and LGBTQ individuals and families. She has also provided supervision for therapists building their own private practices.

Ferne’s approach is unhurried. She believes the counselling relationship develops trust over time, and that people heal when they feel genuinely heard. She welcomes clients who are new to asking for support and those who have simply been waiting for the right fit.
