John Tzanos

Changing how you relate to your mind changes what it can do to you.

About Me

Dr. John Tzanos starts from a simple premise: the goal isn’t to defeat your mind, but to change your relationship with it. The Tampa-based licensed psychologist works with adults who appear to be managing well on the outside while privately contending with thought loops, relentless worry, avoidance, or a persistent sense that something is stuck. His work is evidence-based and structured, but he treats the therapeutic relationship as equally important — sessions are collaborative, transparent, and paced to what the nervous system can actually use.

He works primarily with adults navigating OCD, ADHD, anxiety and panic, depression, trauma, insomnia, phobias, and body-focused repetitive behaviors. Treatment draws on Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, and CBT-I for insomnia, with trauma-focused strategies and clinical hypnosis integrated where clinically appropriate.

Rather than offering generic coping techniques, Dr. Tzanos builds a concrete picture of each person’s specific patterns — triggers, avoidance cycles, habits, and stuck points — and translates that understanding into steps that hold up in daily life. The aim is not symptom management as an end in itself, but a steadier, more self-trusting way of living. Online sessions are available, and a free 15-minute consultation is offered to anyone considering whether the fit is right.
