Kevin Bergen has spent his career doing two things well: understanding people, and figuring out how to actually help them. An LMFT based in Palos Verdes Estates, California, Kevin brings genuine curiosity to each client — he’s drawn to the question of why we behave the way we do and what it takes to shift those patterns in a lasting way. Whether someone is untangling a compulsive habit, navigating a marriage in crisis, or feeling hollowed out by work that no longer fits, Kevin starts from where they actually are rather than where he thinks they should be.
He works with men and women across a wide range of concerns: addictions including alcohol, drugs, gambling, and sexual compulsivity; anxiety and impulse control; career transitions and professional burnout; and the full spectrum of relationship and family challenges, from pre-marital preparation to infidelity and parenting. He’s noticed that for many clients, the hardest moments don’t stay at the office — they travel home in a pocket, surfacing as the kind of 3 a.m. phone-checking that makes sleep impossible. Online sessions are available alongside in-person work.
Kevin is candid about the limits of fit: if the therapeutic relationship isn’t working, he’ll say so and help a client find someone better suited. That honesty is part of his approach — clear, grounded, and oriented toward real change.
