Paul Sussman

Growth needs only the removal of what blocks it.

About Me

People navigating addiction, trauma, family conflict, mood disorders, and the full range of life’s harder passages find in Paul Sussman a psychologist who begins not with a clinical framework but with a willingness to simply be present with whoever is in front of him. Licensed in Alberta and holding a Ph.D. in psychology from Carleton University, Dr. Sussman works with teenagers and young adults, men and women, individuals and families — meeting each person where they actually are rather than where a diagnostic label places them.

His practice, Sussman Psychological, operates from a conviction that growth happens naturally once the obstacles to it are cleared away, and that the most important thing a therapist can offer is a quality of attention so complete and unhurried that clients can surface thoughts they would not otherwise allow themselves to think. He draws on clinical hypnotherapy, integrative breathwork, and behavioral approaches, weaving them together intuitively rather than applying any fixed protocol.

Dr. Sussman brings to this work not only academic training but lived experience of hardship and stigma. That personal history shapes a practice defined less by technique than by the depth of connection he believes makes genuine change possible. In-person and online sessions are available.
