With over two decades of part-time psychotherapy practice and a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University, Alan Ellias has built his work around one steady conviction: that people are stronger than they give themselves credit for. Licensed in Michigan since 1995, he has worked across a range of settings — from crisis intervention at Commonground to private practice — gaining grounded experience with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, OCD, ADHD, and the aftermath of emotional abuse.
Alan works with individual adults, couples, and families navigating some of life’s harder stretches, including divorce, infidelity, blended-family tensions, and the slow erosion of closeness that can happen when phones become a third presence at the dinner table. His approach draws on cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and rational-emotive frameworks, with particular attention to how thought patterns shape feelings and, ultimately, behavior.
He describes his style as warm, nonjudgmental, and interactive, and he is clear that the work belongs to the client. Sessions are available online throughout Michigan and are tailored to each person’s pace, whether that means short-term support or a longer process. Alan’s goal is straightforward: to help people move toward the lives they actually want.
