Jim Mason works from a straightforward conviction: the way people cope with pain matters as much as the pain itself. A Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor based in Edmonton, Alberta, Jim draws on an integrative framework that weaves together Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and narrative approaches — selecting and shaping these tools around each individual rather than applying them by formula. For many clients, problems like depression, low self-esteem, anger, or fractured relationships trace back to coping habits that once felt like relief and became something harder to manage.
Jim works with men, women, and older adults facing addiction — including alcohol, substances, gambling, and compulsive internet or gaming use — as well as mood, personality, and impulse-control disorders, and the particular weight of professional burnout. When a client describes scrolling through a phone at 2 a.m. unable to stop, Jim recognizes that as a nervous system struggling to find an off-switch, not a trivial habit — and works with them on it accordingly. Sessions are available in-office or online.
Jim also provides clinical supervision for addiction counsellors, recovery coaches, and peer support workers seeking a certified Canadian Clinical Supervisor. His aim across all of this work is the same: to help people understand themselves more clearly and build the skills to live better.
