Mina O’Connell

Understanding the whole person through the relationships that matter most

About Me

Thirty years of clinical work across settings as varied as a children’s home in Nebraska, eating disorder units in Colorado, and a Christian counseling center have given Mina O’Connell an unusually grounded foundation. That path has taken her from Cambridge, England to Denver to San Antonio, where she now sees individuals, couples, and families — many of them military households, parents navigating every childhood stage, and people carrying the particular weight of abuse or eating struggles.

Her academic formation spans psychology and art therapy at the University of Texas, a Biblical Studies MA from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Marriage and Family Therapy MS from Texas Woman’s University. Those strands come together in a therapeutic style that holds each person within the web of relationships that shape them — exploring communication, forgiveness, boundaries, and the patterns that quietly repeat. For children, that often means sand tray, art, or play therapy; the worry that hums along in the background and spikes at 2 a.m. when the phone is still lit up gets addressed just as carefully for the adults in the room.

Mina is trained in the Gottman approach and Myers-Briggs temperament assessment, and is a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She offers sessions online as well as in Boerne, Texas.
