For Joanne Gerr, the work begins where people feel most stuck β in the patterns, beliefs, and pressures that quietly narrow a life. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in New York City, she brings a solution-focused approach to a wide range of concerns: eating and weight struggles, anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship conflict, and the cumulative weight of trauma and abuse. Her practice draws on varied therapeutic methods, shaped to fit each person rather than applied by formula.
Joanne works with a broad spectrum of clients β children, teenagers, adults, couples, families, and older adults β and has particular experience with the LGBTQ community, Orthodox Jews, and individuals navigating addiction and recovery. She holds a graduate degree from the University of Michigan and has pursued advanced training through Harvard Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry, with focused study in eating problems and the psychology of women. She has lectured and taught at several universities, and maintains individual, couples, and group counseling in her practice. Online sessions are available.
Many clients arrive having already tried other approaches, carrying the particular exhaustion of losing an hour to endless scrolling when they meant to do something that mattered β Joanne’s goal is to help them get unstuck, find workable solutions, and build lives that feel genuinely meaningful.
