Joyce Colburn

You and your therapist work the problem together, from the inside out.

About Me

What clients walk away with, Joyce Colburn believes, is something more durable than relief: a clear sense of what was driving the problem, a set of tools that hold up outside the therapy room, and a relationship in which they felt genuinely heard. Working from her private practice in Westport, Connecticut, Joyce is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with twenty years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families work through depression, anxiety, addiction, anger, and career upheaval — drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy, dynamic psychotherapy, solution-oriented approaches, and coaching depending on what the person in front of her actually needs.

She works with children, teenagers, adults, and older adults, and has led groups focused on divorce, career transitions, self-esteem, and PTSD, including work with first responders. She also brings direct experience in alcohol and drug rehabilitation, as well as internet and gaming addiction — the kind that shows up when someone realizes that compulsive scrolling or gaming has quietly replaced the concentration and follow-through they used to rely on. Online sessions are available.

Joyce holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and completed two years of post-graduate supervision at Westchester Family Institute. Her approach is collaborative from the first session: the therapeutic relationship is not a backdrop to the work — it is the work.
