Melissa Harper

Curiosity over judgment, conversation over prescription.

About Me

Fifteen years of clinical work — spanning inpatient addiction treatment and private practice — give Melissa Harper a grounded, unsentimental understanding of how people actually change. Based in Victoria, BC, she holds a master’s degree and registration as a clinical counsellor, and has spent her career alongside people navigating addiction, trauma, abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, and the particular exhaustion of professional burnout. She works with teenagers, young adults, men, women, and older adults, both individually and in groups.

Melissa’s style is collaborative and genuinely warm — less clinical monologue, more real conversation. She draws on trauma-informed and somatic approaches, threading in creativity and humour where they serve, and shapes every course of work around the person in front of her. She’s especially attuned to the kind of disconnection that can settle in when someone is reachable by everyone yet truly known by almost no one — that gap shows up in the room, and she knows how to work with it. Whether someone is processing old wounds, building stronger emotional footing, or learning where their boundaries actually are, the work stays tethered to what matters most to them.

Clients often leave sessions feeling clearer and more capable. Melissa holds a steady belief in people’s capacity to move through even their most painful experiences — and she offers online sessions for those who need flexibility.
