Nancy Montagna

Get where you want to go — faster than you think possible.

About Me

From the very first conversation, Nancy Montagna makes one intention clear: she is not there to lead anyone on an extended excavation of old pain. The work is about where you want to go, and she wants to get you there as quickly as possible. A licensed clinical psychologist with four decades of practice, Nancy brings full engagement to every session — listening carefully, yes, but also thinking alongside her clients, naming patterns, and offering real strategies. She works with individuals, couples, and families navigating everything from anxiety and trauma to relationship strain, burnout, and the kind of slow emotional erosion that can happen when two people are physically together but one is always somewhere else on a phone.

Her toolkit spans psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches, EMDR, mindfulness, hypnosis, NLP, and Positive Psychology — but what she keeps returning to is whatever actually works. Most recently she became both a practitioner and a trainer in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.), a brief, evidence-supported method that can substantially shift even a complex trauma within a single session, allowing the memory to settle into the past without the images and feelings that once accompanied it.

Nancy lives between Silver Spring and the Virginia mountains, and brings the same curiosity she has for hiking, history, and the natural world into her clinical work. She offers sessions online. Her straightforward view: the goals can be ambitious, but the time needed is often shorter than people expect.
