When people come to Jonathan Mulder, they are often carrying the quiet weight of disconnection — a marriage that has grown distant, a family caught in cycles it cannot seem to break, or an inner life that feels harder to manage than it once did. That sense of fraying, whether it shows up in a relationship or in the sleepless hours spent replaying a conversation through a phone screen at midnight, tends to have roots that run deeper than the presenting conflict. Mulder’s work begins there, at those roots.
His practice is grounded in attachment theory — the well-researched framework that explains how early relational experiences shape personality, emotional regulation, and the way people connect throughout their lives. He works with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with relationship ruptures, communication breakdowns, mood and anxiety concerns, and the aftermath of abuse or family conflict. A certified trainer for the PREPARE-ENRICH relationship inventory, he also offers that assessment tool as part of his work with couples and families.
Mulder holds a doctorate in General Psychology, with dissertation research focused on attachment theory, and a master’s degree in Professional Counseling. He is an adjunct faculty member at Grand Canyon University, where he serves on doctoral dissertation committees as a chair, research methodologist, and content expert. He offers sessions online.
