Couples arrive at Iona Monk’s practice carrying the same quiet fear: that the distance between them has grown too wide to cross. Iona is a Registered Clinical Counsellor based in Vancouver, British Columbia, with more than ten years of experience working with couples and individuals. Her primary focus is Emotionally Focused Therapy — an approach she has pursued at an advanced level of training — and she brings it to bear on the communication breakdowns, intimacy losses, and coparenting conflicts that quietly erode relationships over time.
She also works one-on-one with people navigating anxiety, professional burnout, family-of-origin wounds, workplace stress, and the aftermath of emotional or psychological abuse. When clients describe losing the thread of their own lives — unable to concentrate long enough to finish a thought, let alone a difficult conversation — Iona draws on cognitive, Gestalt, and Satir approaches to help them rebuild that capacity from the inside out.
In session, Iona is warm, direct, and occasionally lighthearted — because she believes humour belongs in healing as much as anywhere else. She offers sessions in both English and French, and is available online for those who cannot attend in person.
