Leah Heyman

Healing moves at the pace the person in front of her needs.

About Me

Fifteen years of clinical social work across some of life’s most demanding terrain β€” trauma, addiction, disordered eating, chronic illness, grief β€” has shaped Leah Heyman into a therapist who knows how to meet people where they actually are. Based in San Francisco and trained at Smith College School for Social Work, she works with teens from age fifteen and adults of all ages, drawing on a psychodynamic foundation and a harm reduction philosophy that resists the idea of a one-size approach to healing.

Her toolkit is wide and deliberately chosen: CBT, DBT, EMDR (including EMDR 2.0 and the Flash Technique), EFT tapping, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness. That last practice, in particular, offers something concrete for clients whose attention has been fractured by the habit of checking β€” the itch to refresh, scan, and scroll that can quietly crowd out any sustained sense of inner life. Leah tailors these methods to each person, whether they are working through past abuse, navigating a career transition, or managing a mood or anxiety disorder.

She offers both in-person and online sessions, begins with a free consultation, and provides superbills for out-of-network insurance reimbursement.
