About Me

Walking into a first session with Sarah O’Brien, clients often find something they weren’t expecting: room to exhale. Sarah is a Registered Psychologist based in Calgary whose practice is built around the conviction that every person deserves to be genuinely heard — not evaluated or managed, but witnessed. She brings warmth, humility, and a quiet thread of humour to work that can otherwise feel heavy, and she designs each treatment plan around the individual sitting across from her rather than a predetermined protocol.

Her clinical toolkit draws on trauma-informed care at its core, with formal training in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, CBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, among others. A background in nursing deepens how she approaches chronic pain, chronic illness, and the body’s role in psychological recovery. She works with adolescents, adults, and older adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, grief, personality disorders, prenatal and postpartum mental health, substance use, and relationship concerns — including couples who find that arguments now migrate seamlessly from the dinner table into a thread of terse texts neither person can quite step away from.

Sarah holds a Master’s in Counselling Psychology, an Honours BA in Psychology, a Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma, and certifications in anxiety treatment and trauma therapy through EMDRIA and Dr. Janina Fisher’s CCTP program. Online sessions are available.
