Michael Govan holds a clear conviction: real change begins the moment a person understands exactly where they are and how to move forward. That belief shapes every aspect of his work as a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Troy, Michigan, where he has spent four decades helping people find their footing after trauma, loss, anxiety, and the quiet despair of feeling stuck. From the first session, he and his clients map out a concrete plan together — not a vague roadmap, but a shared understanding of what healing looks like and how to reach it.

Michael works with teenagers, adults, couples, and families across a wide range of concerns: anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, abuse recovery, grief, marriage conflict, infidelity, blended-family dynamics, and career transitions. He is a certified EMDR specialist, using that structured approach to address trauma and anxiety that once felt permanent. He also offers Christian faith-based counseling, drawing on a theology degree and more than fifty years of personal faith to support clients who want spiritual grounding alongside clinical care — including those navigating online sessions from home, where the workday rarely fully ends and a phone in the pocket keeps the pressure close.
