Jenny Yates holds a simple conviction: real change begins the moment a person feels genuinely met where they are. An LCSW with more than two decades of clinical experience, Jenny built her private practice, Four Rivers Counseling, out of that belief — and out of a community’s need. After two teenagers died by suicide during the isolation of 2020, she formalized what had always been her calling and launched a practice dedicated to the people her rural Southwest Virginia region too often leaves behind.
She works primarily with women, children, tweens, and teens navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, family disruption, and the particular weight of abuse and its aftermath. She notices, too, how hard it is to decompress when a job or a conflict travels with someone everywhere on their phone — and she makes room for that in the room. Sessions are available via telehealth across Virginia, and her practice’s scholarship fund actively works to lower the cost barriers that keep families from showing up at all.
A Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Jenny brings specialized training to every session alongside something harder to credential: the warmth of someone who has shown up for her community — at food banks, at fundraisers, at the door — long before anyone asked her to.
